Dr. Cathleen Medbury spoke with us about the differences between American and European Foulbrood, how they are treated and what we should be looking for.
Dr. Medbury explained what the different foulbroods look like and what symptoms to look for. She explained how the tests work for these infections. We learned that we can treat European foulbrood but that we are now required to have a prescription from a vet to get the medicine. Many times European Foulbrood will clear on its own if the colony is strong and the queen is laying well. American Foulbrood is usually not curable and when found the hive should be destroyed.
