Join us on Tuesday, June 10 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM for a MHBC meeting at the Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia Street, Denver CO 80220. Our guest speaker is Melanie M. Kirby. Melanie Margarita Kirby was introduced to bees while serving as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in South America nearly 30 years ago. In 2005, she returned to her ancestral lands in northern New Mexico to found Zia Queenbees Farm & Field Institute. A tribal member of Tortugas Pueblo, she advocates for pollinator habitat and biodiversity, and serves as an extension educator at the Institute of American Indian Arts, supporting Indigenous pollinator research. A writer, researcher, artist, and mother, Kirby weaves storytelling, science, and Indigenous knowledge to amplify farmers’ voices and explore how ecology and culture influence bee health. She was a 2019–2020 Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellow in Spain.
